Comprehensive Website Enables Stronger International Compliance with UN Sanctions Against North Korea

In its years of supporting the Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program, CRDF Global has developed many educational resources designed to build capacity on individual and institution levels to counter techniques leveraged by malign actors and states leverage to evade UN sanctions. In addition to the large series of live workshops and training sessions held around the globe, CRDF Global launched a free and public website in November 2023 to serve as the premier source for up-to-date information on non-proliferation sanctions concerning the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), providing valuable insights to government officials and private sector practitioners.

The website (https://northkoreasanctions.org) is available in three languages and designed to strengthen partners’ implementation of UN sanctions and support more informed, risk-aware policies and decision making regarding strategic trade control licensing and enforcement, including industry-outreach efforts. Following the launch of the site, CRDF Global hosted a live webinar in three languages to introduce the site and familiarize government practitioners from multiple countries with its contents and how they can be leveraged to enforce sanctions.

“I am proud to have contributed to the important mission of our EXBS customer to enable stronger international compliance of UN sanctions on DPRK,” stated Glen Schuhmacher, Vice President of Security Assistance at CRDF Global. “By synthesizing, streamlining and translating information and reference documents central to the enforcement of UN sanctions, our team has created a powerful and inclusive platform for increasing understanding and compliance, and established a foundation for creating risk-aware policies and decisions regarding strategic trade control licensing and enforcement.”
