Enhancing Chemical Security in Bangladesh Through Chemical Security Trainings Grants

Submission Deadline

Saturday, August 31 2024

Opening

Thursday, August 01 2024

Overview

CSP priority countries in the Southeast Asia have large amounts of unsecured weaponizable chemicals that are vulnerable to diversion and exploitation by regional non-state actor groups for use in crude chemical attacks. These grants will enable stakeholders to implement robust chemical inventory management systems, applying responsible scientific practices and advanced risk assessment methodologies derived from previous CSP workshops, as well as institutionalizing SOPs to ensure the safe and secure handling, management, and storage of dual-use chemicals. Successful applicants will demonstrate substantial quantities of dual-use chemicals and identify physical and procedural vulnerabilities. Mitigating these vulnerabilities is crucial to maximizing the impact of the grants on chemical security.

Scope

To identify and disrupt the acquisition of weaponizable precursors, equipment, and expertise by proliferator states and nonstate actors intending to violate international norms pertaining to the use of chemical weapons (CW), CRDF Global will award two Chemical Security Training (CST) grants in Bangladesh. These CST grants, each up to $5,500, will be awarded to alumni of ISN/CTR-funded chemical security train-the-trainer workshops. The grants will support the development and implementation of a one- to two-day local chemical security training, specifically focusing on women in chemical security. The training will accommodate approximately 15 female participants from key academic, industry, or government institutions in Bangladesh. Topics may include: Chemical Security threats in Bangladesh, Women in Chemical Security, Chemical inventory management systems, risk assessment methodologies, SOPs for chemical security, mitigating vulnerabilities in chemical security, and policy and regulatory framework for chemical security.

Eligibility

  • Female participants from key academic, industry, or government institutions in Bangladesh
  • A group of applicants as trainers can apply for this grant, if applicable
