Training Course in Jordan Empowers Women in Nuclear Field

The successful completion of the training course titled “Training Course in Women’s Empowerment for Nuclear Security and Non-Proliferation,” held in Amman, Jordan, organized by Jordan Atomic Energy Commission marks a significant step toward empowering women in the nuclear field. This initiative, sponsored by CRDF Global in partnership with Global Affairs Canada (GAC), aims to enhance women’s skills and understanding of nuclear security and non-proliferation.

The program engaged 17 women from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including professionals in nuclear security, national security officials, and stakeholders involved in Jordan’s Nuclear Program. Participants represented esteemed organizations such as the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, the National Cyber Security Center, Jordan Customs, the Chemical Support Group of the Jordan Armed Forces, the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission.

The training extended beyond foundational concepts of nuclear security to cover critical areas like project management, effective leadership, and empowerment strategies. This comprehensive approach aims to elevate women’s contributions to nuclear security efforts and foster a strong support network within the field.

Expert contributions from both local and international organizations included representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), Women in Nuclear Global (WiN Global), the Agency of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Georgia, the Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR), and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).

This initiative successfully established a vibrant community of empowered female professionals dedicated to advancing nuclear security in Jordan. With a solid foundation laid for ongoing collaboration, there is great potential for further initiatives aimed at increasing women’s involvement in this crucial sector.

The project not only raised awareness and knowledge among participants but also nurtured a community committed to promoting women’s roles in nuclear security and non-proliferation efforts.
