UK Government Awards Funds to CRDF Global for Counter Proliferation Projects
ARLINGTON, VA—The United Kingdom, through its Counter Proliferation Programme fund, has awarded five projects to CRDF Global to carry out activities aimed at countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the transfer of illicit materials, technologies and weapons.
“CRDF Global is honored to have the opportunity to partner with the UK government on these important security initiatives,” said CRDF Global President and CEO Michael Dignam. “This partnership represents a unified, multi-sector and multi-country approach to protecting international communities from threats of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.”
Under this agreement, CRDF Global will focus on building UN sanctions enforcement capacity, controlling access to illicit materials and technologies, enhancing threat awareness, developing international nuclear and chemical security standards, and implementing procedural and behavioral changes at facilities.
For projects in the Middle East and North Africa, CRDF Global will partner with the Middle East Scientific Institute for Security (MESIS), a local organization acutely familiar with the MENA region’s needs and culture. Established in 2002, MESIS is a host of the Middle East Regional Secretariat of the European Union’s “Centres of Excellence” initiative on CBRN issues, the first to become operational worldwide.
