National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and CRDF Global Ukraine Host Large-Scale Cybersecurity Exercises for the Central Election Commission and Key Cybersecurity Actors

Large-scale cybersecurity exercises for the Central Election Commission and key cybersecurity actors are being held at the State Cyber Defense Center. The event is organized by the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity (NCCC) at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine and CRDF Global Ukraine.
The purpose of the exercises is to work out the procedures of interaction between the representatives of the CEC, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Cyberpolice Department and the NCCC at the NSDC of Ukraine in the event of cyber incidents during the October 25, 2020, local elections.
Representatives of these bodies perform real-time practical exercises to investigate and respond to cyber incidents (the so-called Blue Team) in accordance with pre-prepared scenarios based on the cyber proving ground of the State Cyber Defense Center of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection. To perform team exercises, the system emulates attacks, which teams must detect with the help of automated monitoring tools, assess the consequences and develop tactics to respond to them.
Cyber ​​exercises will help increase coordination between representatives of various agencies within the working group to ensure reliable and uninterrupted operation of the unified information-analytical system “Elections” during the preparation and conduct of local elections on October 25, 2020, will ensure working out of practical skills in monitoring the state of information security, detecting attacks on information and telecommunication systems, investigating cyber incidents and restoring components of information and telecommunication systems after cyber incidents.
Representatives of key cybersecurity actors will also enhance incident management, as well as decision-making skills in conditions of limited time, information and increased accountability.
